1 -Enjoy the book together!
2 -Accept the Challenge
3 -Design & Create
4 -Share: Post a Flipgrid! (or ask Ms. Airman for help doing this!)

Flipgrid Troubleshooting:
- "Log in with Microsoft Office". After you sign-in, the Flipgrid may open in a new window. Click on your browser down in the taskbar to view the new window.
- Hold the device vertically for videos and pics (since Flipgrid is getting confused these days!)
October - November Book:
What To Do With a Box by Jane Yolen & Chris Sheban
October - November Challenge:
Recycle! Make a game or activity out of cardboard … for indoor recess or ASP students.
1- Work as a team!
2- Your design should be less than 2 feet in length, width, or height.
3- 2nd-5th - Use a simple machine in your design!
4- You might want to write out directions for playing or using your design.

Materials:
- Check at home for a box for your team to recycle! Cereal or shirt boxes would be easier to build with because they are thinner. Or, Ms. Divelbiss has plenty of thicker cardboard for your project.
- Teachers: This might be a great classroom project when your students don't have Super Specials.

Learning Standards
SKP1. Obtain, evaluate, & communicate information to describe objects in terms of the materials they are made of & their physical attributes.
S2P2. Obtain, evaluate & communicate information to explain the effect of a force (a push or pull) in the movement of an object.
S3L2. b. Explore research, & communicate solutions, such as conservation of resources & recycling materials, to protect plants & animals of Georgia.
S4P3. Obtain, evaluate & communicate information about the relationship between balanced & unbalanced forces. a. Plan & carry out an investigation on the effects of balanced & unbalanced forces on an object & communicate the results. c. Ask questions to identify & explain the uses of simple machines & how forces are changed when simple machines are used to complete tasks
S5P1. Obtain, evaluate, and, communicate information to explain the differences between a physical change & a chemical change
Math & Engineering Standards
Game design requirements will involve measurement and geometry to build, and many games will also use computation skills and data collection to play and keep score.
ELA Standards
Writing out the rules of the game – Text Types and Purpose – Example ELA standards:
ELAGSE1W2 Write informative/ explanatory texts in which they name a topic, supply some facts about the topic, and provide some sense of closure.
ELAGSE5W2 Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly. d. Use precise language and domain-specific vocabulary to inform about or explain the topic.
Technology
Promote your game on Flipgrid Storybook STEM.
ELAGSE3W6 With guidance and support from adults, use technology to produce and publish writing (using keyboarding skills) as well as to interact and collaborate with others.
